There's a lot more that goes into a part beyond the machining of the material, such as permanent markings, insert installation, or specialty coatings. We have a large pool of resources available to most efficiently meet the needs of our customers to provide compliant products. Some of these services are internal to SFS while others are provided by our external partners.
Internal Services
- Wire EDM: Some parts are best suited to extraction using our Electron Discharge Machines (EDMs). We have multiple machines available - check out our equipment list here for additional information
- Grit Blasting: For multi-component bonding operations, grit blasting the material surface is necessary for the strongest adhesion. We have both a grit blasting cabinet for smaller components as well as a larger machine that lets us process large cases and other components. Our machine can process both the ID and OD of large cases, which is critical to insulated case assemblies.
- Adhesive Applications: Nozzle assemblies and insulated cases need to have the components bonded together and we've bonded thousands of components together. We're experienced with Chemlok and EA9394 adhesives but are always open to discussing newer products.
- Laser Engraving: Many parts need a permanent marking and we use our laser engraver or dot peen machine to permanently mark the parts (as required or allowed by the part specifications).
- Hardware Install: We're able to install a variety of hardware including dowels, key inserts, bushings, and any other hardware required for your product
- 3D Printing: Our two in-house 3D printers can print using the following materials:
- Onyx: nylon mixed with a chopped carbon fiber. Strong but light, this material can be printed with voids to keep down mass, or as a solid build to increase strength. Onyx has good chemical compatibility, resistance to heat, and matte black surface finish. Learn more about 3D printing with onyx here.
- Carbon fiber reinforcement: to increase the strength of a part, we can add carbon fiber layers for reinforcement to increase the flexural strength of onyx by 600%. Learn more about carbon fiber reinforcement here.
